The new AO ITC Innovations Magazine is here
01 December 2020
The latest edition of the AO ITC Innovations Magazine has been published and is available online. The annual magazine showcases the most recent AO approved solutions and offers insight into cutting edge treatments and tools across all clinical areas.
The AO's Innovation Translation Center (ITC) is responsible for streamlining and driving AO's innovation projects. The AO approved solutions support the AO Foundation's mission to advance patient care worldwide.
For spine specifically, the publication features a case report of a complex cervical spine revision surgery performed by Frank Kandziora, the AO Technical Commission's (AO TC) Cervical Spine Expert Group (CEEG) Chairperson. The patient was a 67-year-old female internal medicine specialist who had six spine surgeries over the last 22 years and complained of significant load-dependent neck pain, an "awful" crepitation, and bilateral arm pain.
Kandziora used the Symphony Occipito-Cervico-Thoracic System, an enhanced set of instruments and implants for posterior fixation of the upper, the cervico-thoracis spine. The system has been developed in cooperation with the AO Technical Commission's CEEG and DePuy Synthes and was launched in November 2019.
"The Symphony Occipito-Cervico-Thoracic System offers surgeons a new approach to tackling complex cases involving the cervical spine," says Maarten Spruit, Chairperson of the AO TC Spine. "The Innovations 2020 magazine offers you an insight into its clinical use, with a challenging clinical case."
Additionally, the magazine provides in depth information about the AO ITC's structure, its activities, and updates about collaboration projects with the AO Research Institute.
