New opportunity for senior spine surgeons in Asia Pacific
16 September 2020
Spine surgery is developing at a huge speed and treatment principles are changing at a pace that can get overwhelming. To stay up to date, practicing surgeons must constantly up their game to keep up to date with the latest treatment protocols.
Often, however, the more senior you get the fewer the learning opportunities become. AO Spine Asia Pacific (AO SAP) recognized this need and designed a new Expert Meets Master (EMM) program, a sub-specialty visitation program for the more experienced surgeons.
The AO SAP EMM program is designed for spine surgeons with a minimum of 10 years of experience. The program offers a short-term specialty visitation to a center of excellence in the sub-specialty of their choice.
The specialties for the year 2021–2022 are:
- Cervical spine
- Endoscopic spine surgery
- Adult spinal deformity
AO SAP has invited twelve spine centers and mentors who do a large volume of surgical work in these three specialties to host visiting surgeons between 1 to 6 weeks in 2021–2022. Visiting surgeons will fund their own stay. They will be vetted by the AO SAP Spine Centers & Fellowships Committee. Eligible candidates must have been members of AO Spine for 5 years.
