Virtual Conference

In June 2020, AO Spine Asia Pacific organized an engaging two-day spine conference with six sub-specialty sessions. The first-ever AO Spine virtual conference focused on cutting-edge academic topics, and we are delighted to report that—despite the very quick planning and turnaround time—it turned out to be a huge success with almost all participants (97.8%) saying they would attend again!

The encouraging feedback and suggestions received from participants will help us design upcoming events and fill the learning needs of our community in the absence of many in-person events. The highlight of the Virtual Conference was the Case Lounge, an interactive discussion platform for faculty and participants. This provided an opportunity to continue the discussion of surgical cases after the Virtual Conference sessions, for the best learning outcome.

Surgical cases of corresponding topics were uploaded to the platform and registered paying participants could access the platform. Faculty and participants engaged using video, voice, and chat messages to discuss and debate the cases.

Overall, 36 moderators and faculty members from ten countries shared their expertise with 194 participants from 40 countries around the world. Both days included three 90-minute sessions. The high attendance rate is encouraging. Participants also stayed online long and gave extremely good feedback. The survey shows 90% of the participants rated the event "Satisfactory to Outstanding" and almost all (97.8%) would register for the Virtual conference again.
